Myles' Registry
The canonical registry of identifiers within myles' digital garden.
- Status
- Spellbound
What it is
A small, opinionated index of things across my site, projects, pages, posts, photos, artifacts, and whatever else I decide deserves a stable handle.
The registry gives each thing an identifier that’s:
- Stable (it won’t change when titles or URLs change)
- Linkable (it has a canonical page / record)
- Referencable (other parts of the garden can point to it)
Why it exists
My garden keeps growing, and names/URLs are squishy.
The registry is my way of saying: this thing exists, this is what I mean by it, and here’s where it lives right now — even if I reorganize later.
It’s also a quiet backbone for cross-linking, lists, and “show me everything related to X” features.
What goes in the registry
Not everything needs an ID. I’m mostly registering things that feel like durable nouns:
- Projects (big ongoing builds)
- Collections / series / stacks
- People & places (when they matter to recurring notes)
- Physical stuff (books, prints, gear, “Artifacts”)
- Site concepts (features, components, formats)
What a registry entry contains
Usually:
- ID (the stable key)
- Name (human label)
- Summary (one-liner)
- Type (what kind of thing it is)
- Canonical URL (where it currently lives)
- Optional: aliases, external references, dates, relationships
How I use it
- Referencing something without caring about where it’s stored
- Building index pages (“all projects”, “all artifacts”, “everything tagged X”)
- Cross-linking with less ambiguity (“this note references that specific thing”)
- Eventually: powering feeds, graphs, and little “related” boxes
